Grace Lutheran Church Lay Ministries
We at Grace Church are blessed with a number of opportunities for lay ministry. Sunday morning’s “ministers” are visible in the sanctuary. However, other ministries are carried on “behind the scenes”. Three such ministries are those of Eucharistic Minister, Prayer Ministry, and Hospital/Homebound Visitor.
Eucharistic ministers carry the Communion once a month to members who are unable to come to church and who appreciate receiving this means of grace. Judy Burghart, Ann and Paul Eichmann, Bev Lund, Judy Orinin and Rick Teagno serve in this capacity.
Prayer ministry is a team of members who receive prayer requests from a variety of sources on behalf of someone in need. A Prayer request may be for oneself or someone else. It may be as simple as “an anonymous person in need” or as detailed as the person’s full name, the reason for the request, and what the prayer includes. All requests are kept confidential unless the requesting individual asks that the congregation be informed. The prayer team consists of Sarah Berg, Bev Lund, Donna Zimmerman, Judy Burghart, Nancy Gobel, Margaret Anderson, Doris Gilbert, Dorothy Simpson, Linda Martin, Ruth Severiens, Jane Thomas, Judy Orinin, and Marge Keller.
It is the Hospital/homebound Visitor’s responsibility to visit members who are hospitalized or who are homebound but are not visited by a Eucharistic minister. At present, Ruth Severiens is the only Hospital/Homebound visitor.
Other members of Grace work diligently in the background to provide services of which we aren’t even aware. Often these people want to remain anonymous.
Jesus reminds us that “the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.” All of these ministries welcome others who feel called to serve. Anyone who feels called to engage in any of the ministries is invited to join. Simply call any person on the team. Any one of us will be happy to welcome you! It isn’t hard or terribly time-consuming, and people are truly appreciative. God’s Peace and Blessings.
